“All that is within me cries out to go back to my home on the Hudson River.” Home to the first U.S. Presidential Library as well as America’s only four-term president, Franklin D. Roosevelt’s lifelong dwelling is a historic national site. It was Appalachian Designs’ privilege to design and build two replica benches that are now situated on the grounds of FDR’s historic home. Frank Futral, the museum’s curator, notes that it was common for the Roosevelts to take furniture out of the house to enjoy on the lawn. Working from historic photos and with the curator’s guidance, our studio was able to reproduce the original design for visitors to enjoy the grounds as the Roosevelts once did.
