Forest Products
The new concentration yard at our Fairview studio is an outlet and marketplace for underused forest materials. The yard provides loggers the opportunity to sell materials previously deemed unworthy of use, while creating a market for craftsmen and builders to gain access to a wealth of unique materials. These are the primary wood types we work with, buy and sell at Appalachian Designs. Visit our Fairview studio to sell your unwanted Locust, Pine, Rhododendron and Hickory or visit the Building Components page to place an order for your next project.

Locust
A hardwood native to Western North Carolina and perhaps the most sturdy, Locust is known for its strength. Often underrated in its beauty and character, this hardwood provides rustic accents to our handmade wooden designs.

Pine
Southern Yellow Pine has been a staple of construction at Appalachian Designs from our inception. It is native to the mountains of Western North Carolina and grows abundantly throughout the region. With its tendency to grow straight, Southern Yellow Pine is ideal for creating sturdy railings and custom furniture.

Rhododendron
A hearty shrub in the Azalea family, Rhododendron adds striking accents to our custom log railings and furniture with its whimsical twists and turns. Due to its rapid growth rate, this beautiful shrub is also a responsible choice.

Hickory
Due to its strength and durability, Hickory is perhaps the premier commercially available wood type of North America. It has been a staple of cabinet-makers for years but at Appalachian Designs, we use it for its singular ability to hold its bark, making it ideal for use in outfitting your rustic mountain home.
